♪♫ I like to dream yes, yes, right between my sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
You don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
And so I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well, someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well, you don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away ♪♫

  • i have this album

  • To Syzygy60 ~ It's worth having, it's a great album ☼ ;-j

  • I could be wrong, but I think most of this album was recorded "live" in the studio with crowd sound overdubs. Either way, there's a lot of tearing ass versions on it. Some, such as this one, are in my opinion better than the originals.

  • Almost all of it was recorded live in concert at various gigs in 1970. I understand there is a bit of production 'muckery' with part of the "Hey Lawdy Mama" track. I've read that the live part was spliced into a known studio version. I think the story of this little piece of "engineering", has given some the erroneous impression that the whole album is a 'mock live' recording. I don't believe so, their play sounds and feels live, I have no good reason to doubt it as otherwise......cont.... ;-j

  • ...cont.

I agree that many of these live numbers are better than their studio takes ;-j

  • this is one of my favourite songs!

i could listen to it all the day.

    thank you for uploading it!

  • It's my pleasure ☺ enjoy! ;-j

  • I still have the original Steppenwolf Live album that I bought when it arrived in stores in the spring of 1970. The cover's a little beat up around the edges and the vinyl has some light scratches, BUT I HAVE IT!!!

  • I remember rocking to this as a kid i always liked Goldy McJohns playing love the sound of the Hammond one of the best organs on the planet

  • IN THIS ''LIVE'' VERSION

    GUITAR PLAY LARY BYROM

  • I love how Machinima used this in their video of how to play the Engie.

  • ヘビメタの元祖野郎ども、ステッペンウルフのモンスター・ライヴ、強力にドライヴする”マジック・カーペット・ライド"

  • sounds like the BAss is . Hummmm OUT OF TUNE.

  • @ELGROOVER interesting story. in any case the album has a great spirit. I like the steppenwolf live album versions best for ever song they do.

  • @ELGROOVER I think the only major live album from that time period that was 'faked' was Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company. The three or four 'live' tracks on that were performed in the studio with crowd sounds from the Fillmore mixed in to make it sound more impressive. But Janis and Sam and the boys admitted to this from Day One, so I guess we can say it was faked but not hidden--no deceit intended. In other words, they were having a larf! Cheers for the groovy uploads!
