To be honest you have to play it fully to understand why it's so good. I'd say what makes it so good is it's originality- a free-roaming RPG (both on foot and in flight) with unique art direction, music, storyline, characters and gameplay. Besides, what isn't there to love about a game where your main weapon as well as one of the central characters is a shape-shifting, evolving dragon that fires lasers?

@Omstube86 Because it's on the soundtrack of Zwei, although there are some slight differences in the AZEL/Saga version of the track :(

I remember when I first had the joy of playing this game, I was against this boss, and nearly had a tear in my eye when this music started playing, as I loved Panzer Dragoon Zwei, I somewhat wish Sega made more, however I also feel that Orta was a nice end to the series...
Still, this music kicks all sorts of ass...

The Guardian Dragon is several levels of awesome. He was a better fight in Zwei though. Too easy in Saga, but then again I did find that game to be too easy overall.

One of the translators of Saga, who I believe also did Skies, had commented in an interview that they too agreed the difficulty of the game was to easy, especially when the story talked of all these ancient weapons and guardians.
