  • I loved the Severance Hall production. Magnificent orchestra playing. Gorgeous singing. Fascinating stage direction and business. Of the many Giovanni's I've seen, this was the first to really draw me deeply into the story.

  • I have the DVD of this production and while the singing is generally of a high level (notably Keenlyside and Hartelius) the production is goofy. Sven Eric Bechtoff is reponsible for the worst Rosenkavalier and Peleas and this DG is right behind them.. And whoever considered Eva Mei a Donna Anna must occupy a parallel universe. I hate the word "eurotrash" since I like most innovative and creative productions but this DG is simply goofy and just plain "trast".
