Check out the VW TDI (Turbo-Diesel), the 08 and 09's get over 60mpg with the record being at 68.8mpg last I checked.
Turbo-diesels got more torque and are much quicker off the line and more fun with a manual trans. : )
If big oil didn't own half the world's governments we'd already have Zero Point Energy vehicles.
