Once again there is a collection of fight songs- three universities share nearly the same song, but it is Yale that created it in the first place. The Bulldogs of Northeast may not have put copyright protection to the song, so it allowed the Wolf Pack and Volunteers to incorporate the song. This is not the only song Yale has that is used in another school, a part of Oklahoma's "Boomer Sooner" has Yale's song, "Boola (Boola)" used to make its fight song.
Now this is my assumption, but it was very likely situation that the two schools did this to almost make an exact copy of Yale's song.
I do want to note that for Tennessee, "Down the Field" is also titled "Here's to Old Tennessee." In addition, this song according to their athletic and academic websites, it is the official fight song, NOT "Rocky Top."
Hope you like this video, say so the right way- this is not the only time I will list 3+ schools that have a fight song nearly alike with another one's.

  • I thought Yale's official fight song was "Bulldog".

  • How do you know about this?

  • Nevada Rocks The Song :D

  • "Down the Field" is also the song that the Lehigh University Marching 97 uses to perform the "Marching LEHIGH" maneuver after every halftime show. Check out the "Marching 97 Archive Footage" at 3 minutes.

  • Take note of how we pronounce Nevada in the song, folks.

    Short a, not long a.

  • this was REALLY helpful cause i had 2 do a report on Yales fight song!

  • This is the same fight song for my high school. Miamisburg High School in Ohio. I think there are video's of the band playing the fight song as well.

  • @1mizzoufan we do play bulldog for every touchdown and everywhere else, but we play Down the Field every halftime shown and the whole Yale Bowl sings along :D

  • actually UNR's sounds a lilttle bit like Texas fight song

  • "Down the Field" was written in around 1905 by the band director at my alma mater, Union High School in Union, Mississippi.

    The original words are:

    Sing out for Union High

    Onward to Victory

Fight, Fight, we'll win or die

    Keep fighting for Union High

    Sing out our battle cry

    Onward to victory

    Yellowjackets, go for a touchdown

    Union High!

  • For what it's worth...my high school has this fight song

  • i personally like "Bulldog" for Yale
