The price for me was somewhere around $600 if I remember correctly. That included:
Merlin head
Bluetooth dongle
Nokia Internet tablet
Additionally I purchased a 12v rechargable battery that can last for several hundred panos without having to recharge, and a small tripod that can be used for automotive interior panos.
I have not tried this for timelapes, but I have seen youtube videos of such works, and it works perfectly as far as I can tell.

This is the bluetooth unit. I have built it into the head by now as you can see if you visit the following link (copy and paste it in your browser's address bar and fix the extra spaces) :
