Hi, I'm Brittany from Pink Peacock Designs, and today we are going to explore the simple clipping mask.

Clipping masks are a very useful tool in digital scrapbooking, so we are going to talk about the basics of using a clipping mask.

Most often a clipping mask is used to fill text or a shape with a photo or paper.

So let's take this heart clipping mask from my "I Heart You" mask kit, and this picture of my nephew and I. Essentially what I would like to see happen is this photo take on the shape of the heart.

So I have both files open in Photoshop, and I am going to drag the photo overtop of the heart. You can see it is underneath in your layers pallet. Resize the photo if nessecary.

Now we can apply the clipping mask. Right click on the picture in the layer pallette and select "create clipping mask". This step may be different from program to program, but the clipping feature itself should produce the same effect.

Now you can adjust the position of your photo within the mask to make sure it is where you would like it.

Once you are satisfied, you can merge those two layers into one. Now this picture is ready to be used in any layout.

Thanks for joining me for the basics of using a clipping mask.
