mmmmh.......... seems am the only one that didn't get to see them delicious beans, all i saw was some dark sauce in the pot?!

Looks great. You can substitute the chorizo with a pound of cooked ground beef...delicious, and makes a cheap family reunion/gathering dish!

@roughtimescooking damn I bet your spouse loves you a lot! excellent recipe.
Looks good. need to try. Issue I have been having: Soaked overnight, slowly simmered for many hours, and still like rabbit turds....hard like little white rocks.
What did I **NOT** do? these beans were dstined for a bacon/bean soup, not baked off. Thanks. Ken.

@thepoint08 did you use salt in the water?

@roughtimescooking
No salt. somebody told me that adding salt would make the beans tough. But not adding salt sure did the same !!!

@thepoint08 right. hard water can also do the same. then imagine the dilemma when using water softener... salt! I hear baking soda will usually do the trick.... but not too much, or they will turn to mush. I've also read a little lemon juice or vinegar will crack the skin and help the liquid to absorb. basically, there's no magic time for beans to soften when boiling, so if you're adding them to something, boil them separately so you don't ruin the other ingredients by overcooking. - Brian

Those baked beans are very different from those we get in this country (UK).
Me and my housemates really have to try making this one day - I also haven't tried cornbread, so it'll be a very nice new food experience.
Cheers for the recipe. :)

thanks for the awesome comment. let us know how you like it... and also feel free to share your bean styles as you do them in the UK. I know for me (Brian) I usually add a few extras to this recipe... garlic... finely diced red peppers... smoked jalepenos... tomato paste.... a little curry powder... all of the above or whatever I'm in the mood for.
Cheers! Brian (and Gramma Willi)
