In addition to hosting the ABC TV documentary series THE WAY WE WERE, Mark Trevorrow (creator of BOB DOWNE) struck out in a different musical direction in 2004 with the release of a studio jazz album, IT'S ABOUT TIME. Here Mark is interviewed on GOOD MORNING AUSTRALIA by an Aussie TV Legend - the brilliant and hilarious BERT NEWTON - before singing THE JOKER with John Forman (now Australian Idol music director) at the piano. This appearance reminds us why Bert's morning magazine show is sorely missed by Aussie cabaret and theatre performers - his generosity at promoting local shows and artists was incredible.

  • I thought you and Gina met at St Martin's youth theatre?

  • We were AT St Martins together after Gina urged me to join - when we met at Wendy Harmer's 25th birthday party in Fitzroy!

  • Bob when are you coming back to the UK?, we love and miss your fantastic comedy

  • The other thing i might point out that this broadcast is Live - at 10 in the morning!! (with soundcheck and music rehearsal at 7.30) ...which might explain the voice!!

  • this is a rare look behind the man that its bob downe we in edinburgh all know the performer but mark you have real talent and its truly special to see

    B x

  • That's incredible. I'm a singer myself, I do singing impressions of Judy Garland, Karen Carpenter and Cher. Are you familiar with Mel Torme? Bob is one consonant away from sounding exactly like him! I'm serious, Americans probably wouldn't even know you were making fun because your Bob voice is so gorgeous.

  • I basically taught myself singing when I created Bob in 1984 (went solo in 1987), although I did take a handful of voice lessons at that time with a legendary Sydney singing teacher, Bob Tasman-Smith, which were very helpful. But I was always pretty, um, musical...! ;-) hehe

ps. Jim Carrey...? he's the governor of Arkansas, right? ;-)

  • HAHA! I'm so sorry if you were insulted by my remark. I'm American, you know how rude we can be ;) I am a real fan of yours. Has anyone ever told you that your style is very similar to Jim Carrey's? I wish we had more Aussie comedians on U.S. television but we isolate ourselves from the rest of the world and then miss out on fantastic talent like yours and Gina Riley's. It's really our loss. Did you study voice?

  • What is this... IDOL??

    ;-)
