Fake Glutathione in the Philippines

News report on sub-standard and fake glutathione in the Philippine market. According to some dermatologists, instead of putting glutathione in the capsules, some repackers may be putting N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) which boosts glutathione production in the body and considered to be more effective than taking glutathione itself. But glutathione is better known as a skin whitener than NAC. However, NAC is much cheaper than glutathione, the reason why deceptive repackers "substitute" the ingredients & mislabel their NAC capsules as 'glutathione'. Some repackers also use a cheap blend of the 3 amino acids that make up glutathione. To play it safe, it is advisable to use only unrepacked, reputable brands of glutathione from the USA and Japan.

According to a dermatologist, Mercury Drug and Watson pulled out their stocks of Lucida-S after the test results came out. As of June 20, 2008, Lucida came out with ads stating that Lucida-S is "available in Mercury Drug". It is clear the Lucida-S makers are deceptive people.

An importer can submit "extra" good samples for testing and trumpets the 'excellent' results but later sells sub-standard products to the public. If the importer makes deceptive claims abt glutathione & income potential of becoming an agent, he can also mislabel the product. Safer to use original glutathione from reputable USA firms such as TwinLab, Source Naturals, Solgar, Jarrow, Nutricology, Vitamin Shoppe, etc.

It is better & safer to use original brands of glutathione from the USA or Japan.

If you buy repacked glutathione, you are NOT SURE that: 1.the expiry date is accurate 2.the repacked glutathione really comes from USA or Japan 3.ingredients are accurate. E.g., the importer may have ordered 250 mg. glutathione from a reputable supplier abroad but then the importer repacks and mislabels the products as containing 500mg gluta, alpha lipoic acid, grapeseed ext. etc.

To be sure about your 'glutathione' pills, bring them to PIPAC or Adamson University for testing. They may find that your 'glutathione' pills actually contain NAC or plain cysteine, a component of glutathione. Some gluta pills claim 700 mg to 1,000 mg. ingredients but the pills are too small to contain so much ingredients.
