Yeah I jammed through his rig at an open blues jam in Calgary a few times, fantastic player live.

I got to hang out with Amos. He's a very neat fellow!

@taildragger53 I agree the solo is amazing; emotionally powerful. No wonder you've been practicing it so long. Cheerio!

@otuzzir Actually back in 1973 i also thought Ry Cooder had done the guitar solo because it was so typical of his Hawaaian style...then i read it was Amos with really light strings. (difficult to control the bends) I have struggled to learn this solo for 37 yrs...happily have just nailed it but praying i don't forget how to play it.

I saw Maria Muldaur live at a shopping center in San Jose California. Of course she did this song. With her was a young black man backing her up on guitar. He did all the fills beautifully and did a great job of the guitar solo, but it looked like he was reading it. After the show I chased him down as he was going back to his car. He said he was out of the local union, and this was a pickup job! He was a fabulous guitarist!

I think his solo is the greatest of all time. Simple as that.

As a pro guitarist of over 40 years, i've had my share of guitar hero's. This solo to me is the best naturally constructed of all time, rivalled only by arranged solo's of " The Dan " recordings.

The illustrated history of rock called amos's solo on this tune a "solo of sustained beauty and purity" as I recall.
He's a great player!
One of these days I'm going to get to Alberta and see him in concert.

I recall when i first heard this song in 1973. It was a beautiful summer morning and this came on the radio in London. The guitar solo blew my mind. I had to go out and buy the album. I couldn't fathom if the player (Mr. Garrett) was using a slide or fingers or both. To this day this guitar solo brings a tear to my eye. The song brings back beautiful memories. Many thanks kentatoatom.

Beautiful song, beautifuly played and arranged :)x
This is one of the best guitar solo's of all times. It is my favorite solo. The song is instantly recognized by its first two notes too. Amos, way to bend them strings!
