@Reversification I get the cynical feeling that he was actually trying to pull him up because back then there was no rule that somebody had to go into the corner after a knockdown. They could start punching the second the guy had both feet on the canvas again. (See some of Demsey fights, etc.) So really, it's a psychological trick to get the guy to quickly stand up, so he can start wailing on him again. Not great sportsmanship.
