Oslofjord
The Oslofjord (Norwegian: Oslofjorden) is a bay in the south-east of Norway, stretching from an imaginary line between the Torbjørnskjær and Færder lighthouses and down to Langesund in the south to Oslo in the north. The bay is divided into the inner (indre) and outer (ytre) Oslofjord at the point of the 17 km long and narrow Drøbaksundet. The entire population situated around the Oslofjord including Oslo is about 1.7 million, and the total population of all the counties situated around the fjord is approximately 2 million.
In spite of its name, the Oslofjord is not, geologically speaking, a fjord. In historical times, it was known by the current name of the region, Viken (the bay); it is unclear when (and for what reason) the body of water acquired its current name.
Oslofjorden
Oslofjorden er en fjord som strekker seg fra Rådhuskaia i Oslo og ned til Langesund i Bamble kommune. Langesund ligger på høyde omtrent med Færder fyr og mange definerer Oslofjordens begynnelse ved de to stedene. Fjorden er dermed 107 km lang og Norges 5. lengste fjord. Fjorden er Norges største trafikkåre for skipstrafikk. Området er også et viktig rekreasjonsområde, med båtliv, hytteliv og fiske.
Det bor cirka 1,1 millioner mennesker rundt Oslofjorden. Fra Langesundsfjorden i vest til svenskegrensen i øst er det tilsammen 11 byer og mange tettsteder.
Oslofjorden har Norges største trafikk av ferger og lastebåter. Det er blant annet flere utenlandsferger og bilfergeforbindelse mellom Moss i Østfold og Horten i Vestfold. Kystverkets sjøtrafikksentral som overvåker skipstrafikken i Oslofjorden ligger i Horten.
