This is a quick video showing Mitchell BNC #208 35mm motion picture camera that was reflexed with an Arri-II spinning mirror by Camera Service Center. The video tap was recently added and is the third economy design developed by owyheesound.

More details here:
http://owyheesound.com/mitchell-bncr.html

This video shows the camera running with film at 24fps and show the camera running with a sound level meter. The sound is below readable levels by the meter.

This camera runs at a range of crystal sync speeds and a larger range of non-sync speeds.

The camera is large and requires the Worrall gear head it is on. The worrall is on a Mcalister hydraulic dolly, though it is not visible.

The cameras follow focus is smooth, the lens I have for the camera are superbaltar 25mm, 50mm, and a 100, but they are sharp especially the 25mm. Recently acquired are a full set of Cine Kowa Prime lenses which include 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm.

This package is ready to shoot!

  • I know this has nothing to do with the video but what music is this?

  • @Jrock69ford It is just a funny little tune I created for this video. Some analog synthesizers and an old drum machine from the 80s were used to make the music.

  • dude that gear head is awesome. Are you selling this kit??

  • Sorry, at the moment I have no intention to sell any gear. However, with this economic downturn who knows what I will be doing with my stuff in the future.

  • i love this camera,i touch and see one in mexico city

  • Apocalypse Now was shot with this camera!

  • that is just fantastic. Was this filmed in film?

  • @Petyamester

No, it fixed some of the really, really serious problems but the RED is far from problem free as of today. Just tried to use it as an FX camera on a shoot two weeks ago. Problems held us up. The RED is a good camera on paper, but not in real everyday use.

And I think the key word there was 'shots'. Yes the occasional shot is indistinguishable from 35mm, but that is far from good enough. A few good shots does not make for a good looking film. And that is what you get with RED.

  • @TheHandOfFear Welcome to 1 year ago. :) I'm not a red fan, but its firmwares fixed every problem long ago, and with the new epic and MX sensors it's even improved at low light sensitivity and such. I've seen film shots with the red that I couldn't have tell it's digital, and seen films that were awful too. It's down to "it's not the camera, it's the person who operates it" fact again.

  • @Petyamester Yeah, you can check out how much more of a pain it is to shoot with than a 35mm camera. Oh, and how so often the camera is marred with technical problems that prevent you from shooting at all.

And then you can check out how your final image doesn't look as good as 35mm.

    Great camera!

  • I would love to hear how you converted to a spinning mirror. I have used Mitchells for over over 20 years, but mostly for effects work. I know that the Arri mirrors are good, but were you able to keep the variable shutter? I know it is a toss up, but I have only seen pellicles that allow the use of the variable shutter. Hence, I swithced to a Mark II.

  • Impressive camera.
