Someone said that it's a slant or curl.. If you're in the redzone it could be a fade as well. Know your field position position and where your help is coming from.

@Karlywuzhere routes like the 5 yard out, the quick slant; you know, the quick stuff. pretty much anything where the qb is going to look for a quick delivery

A 3 step route is usually a short route, such as a slant or a curl.

That's a classic move that defenders use to try and read our eyes. Normally what we're taught to do if a DB is sitting on the route, we'll have a 3 step drop, but we'll hold the ball for just a split second longer, letting the receiver continue to run and give him a step(s) ahead of the DB because he was sitting on the route trying to jump the short route.
