  • What the hell? You make it sound like the jump serve is one kind of a serve. First, you don't really "jump"; you are just fully extending your body on impact, which includes the knees. Second, your feet should be off the ground in ANY serve to achieve max rotation and height. People, if you want to improve your serve, you're much better off watching FYB2007's slow-mo videos of tennis pros who do it right!

  • @blahraptors you can serve without jumping. and fyb is good but they only show pros. you ever go to the courts, you see everyone playing like the pros...shhh don't tell them they think they are. that's who we help the everyman, not the pro...besides, roger doesn't subscribe to my site

  • Wow, this one has title and ending sound effect (song) :-D

  • @namui heheheheheh it's a song from the mac--public domain. if you get me a public domain song, i can use it for the vids, but if it's copyrighted, I can get snagged... youtube allows 3 strikes for music and I have one--inadvertently so I do not want to chance it. so no music... my new editing program has a cool entrance

  • It helps if you play volleyball....

  • @hattrickster33 I think Volleyball guys make awesome tennis players--they got the serve and net game down plus the pressure of serving is less

  • As a qualified coach myself, I wouldn't teach people to jump as part of a service action - I'd encourage them to push up with their knees, and if they leave the ground then all well and good, but I think your jump is slightly mis-timed. I'd have thought it's best to push up through the ball, rather than jump before contact and hit the ball on your way down as you seem to do here.

I might be wrong though, just my opinion.

  • once again you are off... yes there is such a thing as a jump serve but if you try to think about doing it... well

the jump serve comes naturally with more effort in the serve, not from actually jumping

  • Is it me, or does his body look awkwardly straight when jumping? Also, it looks as if he's using only his arms to serve, which makes me believe that his serves are extremely slow and very easy to return...

I agree with Geno98 that a jump shouldn't be conscious when serving. It should be second nature. People who don't jump at all are probably beginners who don't know the mechanics of a proper serve.

  • gracias! fue de mucha ayuda...

  • @Geno98 you got to do it consciously. some people don't jump at all. what a waste of power

  • jumping shouldn't be conscious on the serve, imo.
