  • should be much more tight. the pianists does not have this everlasting puls thats is needed. therefor it doesn't groove as much as it should.

  • @JohnnySigzRude thanks for your comment, i have to say: first practice and try to play this difficult piece and then we can talk abbout interpretation, if you find a grate performance (at least for your taste) please send it to me and so i could understand what you mean, and of course i'm open to learn new things about other performances. greetings.

  • @JohnnySigzRude i agree it could be tad tighter, but it's still a pretty great performance! when i've done duo pieces in the past, i've always preferred sitting side by side with the other player, because i find it easier to play really well together with my partner. but hey, horses for courses :)

  • what strikes me the most in this piece (since i listened to it about billion times) are the the use of the hidden minor 3rds in the begging DO, ME, DO, ME, DO, TE, DO, DO with emphasis on tonic DO (sorta drone or peddle like IDK) also at 1:14 the interval emphasized is the major 2nd in the left hand. DO, RE, DO, DO, RE, DO and then back to minor 3rds. in this whirl of rhythmic complexity you have these simple intervals that serve as little ear candies. IDK thats what i think this pice is great!

  • There are some good ideas in there, but it doesn't quite come together for me as a whole.

  • this sounds like a sondheim piano accompaniment, what with all the driving rhythms, motivic repetition, and subtle changes in harmony. I enjoy this stuff

  • If you enjoyed this piece you may want to listen to "Naive and Sentimental Music". Adams' music always conjures images of a journey of sorts. An excellent composer and a good rendition of this difficult piece!

  • I really enjoy this work. It can put so many different kinds of images of Americana in my head. Trains, the Rockies, hail/lightning storms in the mid west, a construction worker getting up on a sunny day to head to work, and it goes on. I am surprised that anyone would say this doesn't do anything for them.

  • Thanks, Phrygian Gates is an excelent work!

    I have played China Gates!

I like the violin works too, and Short ride for orchestra, Adams is amazing!!!

  • check out phrygian gates!
