The unique Harlem 144 Guest House is located in the fashionable Mt. Morris Park Historic District in New York City in a restored 1888 brownstone townhouse that is on the National Register of Historic Properties. This area offers visitors a little slice of Americana in the Big Apple with its rows of brownstone architecture typical of 19th Century New York. The charming owner of this guest house is happy to arrange tours of the neighborhood for those interested. From here you can easily reach downtown Manhattan and all the sites in no time. This area is full of great soul food restaurants such as African and Caribbean food for hungry visitors.
Here in Harlem is the famous Apollo Theatre, originally a burlesque theatre and only opened its doors to black performers in 1934. This theatre became one of the few theatres which almost exclusively promoted black acts such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and James Brown, and today it continues to showcase all manner of music and a few non-black performers.
The garden level apartment is furnished with restored antiques and original African and African American art and artifacts representing the cultural heritage of this authentic NY neighborhood. There are two rooms on the second floor of the house, a double and a triple. Both have a double bed and the triple has a pullout (trundle) bed. The rooms share a bathroom in the hall.
The rooms have coffee/tea making facilities, fresh linens and towels, a hair dryer, TV, wireless internet, air-conditioning, fans and heating. Guests have access to the kitchen. There is wireless internet in public areas.
