Jean Michel Jarre's concert in Paris on 14th July 1990 entered the record books as having attracted the biggest ever crowd to a free rock concert. Over two million exuberant fans crammed the narrow streets of central Paris to enjoy an evening of great music and stunning visual effects.

... This concert spectacular transformed the skyscrapers and surrounding buildings of 'La Defense' into living sculptures through the magic of giant projections, spectacular lighting effects, lasers and fireworks, all synchronised with the music from the central pyramidical stage. A harmonious combination of the past and the present, the baroque and the high tech, ecology and technology, a vision of the Opera of the 21st century.

In this instance, unfortunately, "HQ" means "Higher Quality" rather than "High Quality".

... In 10 parts. :-(

During the "1st half" (the bit with the lazer harp) the harp failed.Probably a midi malfunction.JMJ tried to salvage the track (after losing the rhythm).Once working again he plays the whole "verse" again on the Laser Harp+its perfect.THAT is the "verse" you see/hear on the official video. Then he plays the rest of the track as you see on the video. There are 1 or 2 minor cuts in the middle of the "next part" of Calypso 2,but nowt major!

I will try and upload the broadcast one day...

  • @destinationdocklands what went wrong???

  • I know its hard to spot, but at 2;42 there is a cut.

This version of the song as it was played live, went horribly wrong.

I hear the lazer harp messed up or something, but it had to be cut out. I have the original audience and radio broadcasts..its all on there..Still this video is MUCHbetter than the Docklands show that Mike Mansfield ruined...not a bad video this one!

  • awesome

  • Even now, in the XXI century - 21 years after the event in Paris, the his concerts would look and feel amazing. Great composer, not because he is grat, but because of the music he makes. Simple yet deep. Free concert - great quality, and that makes a great artist.
