The Environmental Protection Agency is charged with reducing air pollution through the Clean Air Act. However, some politicians and legislators are calling for actions to reduce the ability of the EPA to reduce air pollution from carbon emissions and other pollutants under this Act. Health Care Without Harm considers these actions a threat to public health, as air pollution is linked to increased asthma attacks, and exacerbates lung and heart disease. Carbon is also linked to increased heat in the atmosphere, which can lead to heat-related weather events, such as heat waves, which are also associated with a number of health risks, including death.
