In the telling of the Hanukkah story, things get a little messed up as Kosher Joe's Nemesis hacks into his email to write back to one of KJ's fans.
Much more than the "Jewish alternative" to Christmas, Hanukkah, which means "dedication", recalls a dark time in the history of our Jewish people, and our miraculous deliverance from that darkness. This eight-day holiday commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the army of Antiochus Epiphanes, a time when God preserved and protected his people through the heroic act of a small band of Jewish guerilla fighters. For Jewish people, it's a time to light the menorah (also called a hanukkiah), give gifts, sing songs and feel proud that we were able to stand up to our enemies. For Jewish believers in Jesus, the "festival of lights" or festival of dedication, reminds us of the deliverance we have is through "the Light of the world."
