This is the begining sequence from the CBS Show "Cold Case." It's supposed to show a family watching the Apollo-11 moon landing live in 1969. However, the editors who put together this sequence made a major factual error. Can you spot it?

  • The glaring error is that this is not television footage. This was from the DAC 16mm camera on the LM. The actual landing did not have television coverage. TV transmission did not begin until some time later, with the EVA. The MESA had to be deployed with the TV camera and the steerable S-band antenna had to be adjusted.

This portion was never on television.

  • Stanley Kubrick did a MARVELOUS job on those sets

  • @DrBuzz0 Ha! Amazing how our perceptions of the past become warped.

  • "413 is in" [audible] is playing when Apollo 11 has not landed, yet in the NASA footage, "413 is in" is spoken after landing and main engine shutdown.

  • Well?

  • @mddawson1 I messed that up - its was the afternoon when the Eagle landed, it was night for the first step onto the moon.

  • The prologue says that the program does not portray any actual person _or event_. Maybe the editors think the landing was a hoax :)

  • It was night time in the US when the landing took place.
