@beamangrow, I can't think of a better place to encourage people to say precisely what they wish than in this virtual space where insult isn't actually possible. Who is the victim if both the insulter and object of that derision exist only in the same single mind? If I imagine a loathsome entity based entirely on a snippet of prose, and then openly despise it, how can that possibly be considered an insult to the person who authored it? dkkgh146 simply enjoys persecuting a what he most loathes.

@robhoneycutt, I wish he would have picked a better metaphor. I would have compared the prior news infrastructure as a hormone model; specific organs emit information in a way designed to diffuse outwards to everyone. Once the internet appeared (a nervous system) a new paradigm became viable and we're seeing (and part of) the neurogenesis of an extra-somatic collective consciousness for mankind itself. Our political capital is real. Better ways to harvest and deploy it are likely to emerge.

I like what Van Jones says about the media. Rather than getting all bent out of shape over Fox News smearing him unfairly, he steps back to take a very broad view of new media. The loss of news filters. No more Walter Cronkite. News is now unfiltered and as a society we have to mature into this new world. Very smart indeed!
