  • I studied with Fred Gruber for 3 years and this is similar to his "dah-dum" system. He taught similar forms as the "separate' and "continuous" techniques but never called it that. You've organized it and presented it in very understandable and accessible way and you play the hell out of it. I'm going to start practicing hands again! By the way, who did you study with?

    Paul Kreibich, Los Angeles

  • @forbeat100 - Thanks Paul. I studied with Marv Dahlgren, Floyd Thompson, & Elliot Fine. All of them are great teachers, but they did not show me this technique. The stuff shown here is from my own R & D work. I just finished a book which shows how it can be used to play rudiments called "Morphing Double Strokes with Open/Close Technique". Contact me at my website if you are interested, GK-Music.com, and I'll explain how to get a copy. It's not up on the site yet.

  • This technique is strongest FINGER technique i saw in my life. And i saw a lot, because i am pro drummer and private instructor for 40 years. You built regular gladstone and moeller technique to a new level.DO YOU?

  • @pektus5 Thanks! Ed Shuaghnessy said he felt it's the first new thing to come along since the Moeller Technique was introduced over 80 years ago. Joe Morello told me @ PASIC 2003 that I had taken the Gladstone thing to a whole new level. CurrentIy I'm finishing the revisions to a new book that applies it to rudiments with extremely interesting results. I hope to have it available at my website sometime in 2011. (GK-Muisc.com)

  • Thank you for this lesson! :)

  • @fpagliato The Singled Four is not a power technique, it is a finesse technique for low to medium volume control. It is only one tool in the toolbox, you will need other techniques for loud situations. FYI, the word "dynamics" usually refers to volume differentials, being able to go from loud to soft, or soft to loud: i.e. "The dynamic range of this piece is huge, you must play letter A & B very loud, then letter C must be very

    soft".

  • I have been waiting for this video a long time. You are the man!!

  • Nice video!!!!!

  • Thaks man!

  • @geoffreydlang Very well said. If this clip were the *pass standard* as you suggested, less than 1/10 of one percent of instructional videos would pass!

This is brilliant from beginning to end.

  • Hahahaha the ending is just brilliant :D

  • gordy, i'm moving to minneapolis to study with you. you are the man!

  • Presentation, explanation, execution, progression...all very well done.

Especially dug the opening audio / graphics and closing credit sequence.

YouTube would be a much smaller place if instructional videos would have to pass an audition..with this clip being the 'pass' standard.
