Patriotic song. Free war memorial music. Inspiring remembrance video.
The song is timeless and honours the memory of those who have died in the service and defence of Australia in war.
(Comment by Peter Barnes, the author of the song)
The song was created from my experience in visiting the Adelaide River War Cemetery (114 kilometers south of Darwin) and seeing the graves of Australians who gave their lives in the service and defence of their country. I felt I should do something within my capabilities to honour the memory of such incredible sacrifice.
There are 432 servicemen and 63 civilians buried in the cemetery - the civilians were killed during Japanese bombing raids. Adelaide River, during World War II, was a major military centre for 80,000 Australian and United States troops.
There are many songs that focus on war service by Australians. Some are anti-war, lamenting the waste of life, like Eric Bogle's 'And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda'. Some focus on a particular war or conflict, like John Schumann's 'I Was Only 19', which focuses on the Vietnam war. Many songs include ANZAC, and focus on the Gallipoi campaign.
'Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching?' is different in many aspects. Being timeless, it covers all wars and conflicts Australians have served in. The song is also stirring and uplifting.
Many Australians who lost their lives in war weren't thinking they could save the world or defeat evil regimes. As in the trenches of France, and the patrols in Vietnam, or on the Kokoda Track, Australians were looking after their mates alongside them. Many Australian veterans march on ANZAC Day in memory of their mates left behind, and the ones that have passed on before them. Along with their mates, they're marching once again, in the towns and cities, across our great land.
Over 100,000 Australians have lost their lives in the service and defence of our country.
25 June 2010, marks the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.

Words to the song below:
Can you hear Australia's heroes marching?
Can you hear them as they march into eternity?
There will never be a greater love
There just couldn't be a greater sacrifice
There just couldn't be
Can you hear Australia's heroes marching?
The ones who fought and gave their all
Can you hear Australia's heroes marching?
Can you hear them as they march into eternity?
There will never be a greater love
There just couldn't be a greater sacrifice
There just couldn't be
Can you hear Australia's heroes marching?
They're marching once again
Across our great land
Can you hear Australia's heroes marching?
Can you hear them as they march into eternity?
There will never be a greater love
There just couldn't be a greater sacrifice
There just couldn't be
Can you hear Australia's heroes marching?

i am British and I'm proud of that. i have a deep respect for our armed forces, but i have a profound respect for the aussie forces if only because they always got the shity end of the stick. sent to fight the no hope battles, used like cannon fodder, treated like second rate soldiers but always beating the odds and coming out the other side with honour. id stand the line with an ANZAC any day of the week. i thank all those who have served and are serving their country. stand proud

I an an American. My dad was drafted into the US army before Pearl Harbor. He was sent via British troop ship to Egypt. He saw duty in North Arfica, Italy, France & Germany. He told me the American, British and Germans were all good soldiers but the Australians and New Zealanders were better soldiers, They were country boys, more rugged and tougher. He told me the "Aussies" and the "Kiwis" were the bravest men he ever knew.
