Courtesy of Dr. Mile Brujic, we see how the Mastrota Meibomian Gland Paddle is used to express meibom from the meibomian glands located in the eyelid. This short movies demonstrates how thickened, abnormal oils can impact the delicate meibomian glands. Meibomian gland expression is of diagnostic value and it is generally accepted that routine expression can improve the symptoms of meibomian gland dysfunction.

  • No. Normal meibum is a clear, very pale yellow (it would be hard to see). In this video the meibum is thick and pasty. The paddle was designed for professional use (although some patients have ordered it to employ it at home). Warm compresses followed by digital lid massage is suggested for home therapy.
