If you're going to build it, build it green - that's the motto of this pioneering and entertaining eco-lifestyle television series on PBS. Each week host Kevin Contreras explores a range of topics, from the Green Extreme to blue jean insulation as he takes viewers on a journey of discovery where they see that consciousness can be as much about style as it is about our sense of responsibility. Check your local PBS stations for airtimes and visit www.buildinggreentv.com for more everyday advice about making your own home more healthy, energy efficient and better for the environment.

what I would like to see is someone building their home from timber on their land and it be a small home. We need to see more of this, small log home, and homes built with recycled products

how are steel beams green? this is POSER city.....building green, where we semi-solar heat our hot tubs :(.........steel beams green?? 10,000sqft home for a retired couple green? I have little faith in a 200year lifespan of hay bails, how do you keep out the rodents/insects?

This is an apples and oranges argument. They're not building a mud hut here but a sophisticated construction using 21st century technology. The key is in the design, engineering and construction. If you erect buildings using "real" materials like concrete and steel without the proper design and construction, it will collapse and kill just as many (probably more) people.

want to see what straw and mud stands up to in the real world. Look at Iran after a moderate earthquake in 05..killed 30,000 from homes built just with these material.God help you!

Thank you. If we love our children and future grandchildren's grandchildren, as the Iroquois say- up to the 7th generation- we will care about what kind of earth we leave them as well. How much do you love your children? They dont need so many plastic toys and gadgets-they would have more fun and benefit more from touching the earth, straw, dirt etc so they can learn to love the earth and not value things over their own humanity and true natural relationships.
