Moving through the Repton Infinity files in haphazard order, as the game allows me to do, this video shows the first two levels of Repton 3 Take 2, the first of which is also the only Repton Infinity level I actually completed when I had the game as a child. (Back then, I wasn't familiar with the expression "Take 2", and thought it referred to the fact that you can take two crowns, unlike in the original Repton 3. As I previously mentioned in connection with twelve eggs on a Repton 4 level, Repton Infinity has no limits on the number of any character, except transporters, since all characters are redefinable.)

Repton 3 Take 2 is a recreation of Repton 3 in the Reptol programming language, and the first level is similar in style to the old Repton 3 levels. It does, however, reveal some gameplay differences from the previous game:

* Spirits will not move through earth. They will also not move through each other, but will knock each other around like bumper cars, which is why I take care to keep them out of each other's paths.
* The Infinity Shuffle is possible, though it is not needed until Level 3. Here I use it in a couple of places to save time, notably to release the two eggs simultaneously. Unlike in Repton 3, if I simply collect the middle diamond and move up, when one egg hatches the other will not kill the monster.

The three-column rock-and-diamond puzzle that must be solved to reach the transporter is one of the most famous puzzles in the Repton series and has been imitated countless times, including in one of my Mole Miner levels, "Through the Trapdoor".

  • These levels are a nice start to the game, but I was slightly disappointed that they didn't get as difficult as some of the previous Repton 3 levels.
