UP 3985 heads to railfest in North Platte NB 18sept08

UP 3985 heads to North Platte NB to Rail Fest'08 the annual celebration of North Plattes spirit and origins - as railroad and western heritages come together for three fun-filled days of community events & entertainment. The celebration is held in North Plattes Historic Original Town area in and around Cody Park at the junction of Highways 83 & 30. Rail Fest 2008 has been scheduled for Sept. 19, 20 and 21. Rail Fest Headquarters learned today (Sept. 17) that Union Pacific Railroad is adding two Heritage Units and a Green Goat to its display of locomotives at Rail Fest 2008 this weekend in North Platte.




There will now be 10 historical or special locomotives on display throughout North Platte:

FOUR HERITAGE UNITS the Denver Rio Grande, the Missouri-Pacific, (MOPAC), the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy), and the Chicago & North Western.


TWO CHALLENGERS the retired 3977 Challenger and the 3985, a live steam locomotive


TWO CENTENNIAL DIESELS the retired 6922 and the working 6936

ONE GREEN GOAT one of 10 low-emission, hybrid locomotives operated by Union Pacific


ONE 480 STEAM LOCOMOTIVE a 1903 vintage locomotive on display at Memorial Park

#5 is a residual oil, what's leftover from the refinery that can't be refined further. It also runs on recycled motor oil. There is a large supply and less demand these days for both.
