During the Tokyo Auto Salon 2009 show, Mazda exhibited a "Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid" concept car that is based on a new concept that combines a hydrogen rotary engine with a hybrid system.

Capable of using either hydrogen or gasoline, the dual fuel system can keep the car running on gasoline even when the hydrogen fuel runs out.

The hybrid system efficiently converts hydrogen fuel energy to electric energy to drive the motor, and provides high energy efficiency with superior response, enabling fuel-efficient powerful driving performance with a direct feel.

Mazda began leasing the "RX-8 Hydrogen RE" in 2006 as a clean car equipped with a hydrogen rotary engine and is making significant contributions to the development of a hydrogen infrastructure for the future. When running on hydrogen, the exhibited Premacy can travel up to 200km, which is double the cruising range of the RX-8 Hydrogen RE.

The engine shown was just for demostration purposes;otherwise,there is usually a shaft coming out of the rotor face,in the video ,if you look at the center of the rotor ,it has a cover plate instead .

Still have a question on safety.

Like many public vehicle using LPG still concerning problem with car accidents.

It is as carry a gasoline bomb on the street. And Hydrogen can combust even more nasty.

a rotory on gasoline not clean but running on hydrogen now you are talking !!!! i was thinking of this for a while and i think it can be a top engine that might even exceed expectations!!!

it is like any other engine it's drive shaft extends out through the back of the block basically with these the pistons also act as fly weights, and can spin up around 13000 rpm......lol  yeeeeeehaw, these motors are easy to fix. have a friend with one on a dune buggie 30 pounds boost he can keep the front wheels of the ground till fourth gear......lol

What I don't get is where do you get you drive from? Where does some kind of shaft come out of the engine. How does that all work?
