This has been the most difficult piano piece I have ever played. After watching the movie SHINE, I wanted to challenge myself by starting playing this piece. I love the concerto so much that I wanted to learn the whole concerto.
For those who are not to familiar with Rach 3 the following description is taken from wikipedia:

The Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30 by Sergei Rachmaninoff (colloquially known as the "Rach 3") is famous for its technical and musical demands on the performer. It has the reputation of being one of the most difficult concertos in the standard piano repertoire.

First movement:
Allegro ma non tanto (D minor)
The first movement revolves around a diatonic melody that soon develops into complex pianistic figuration. It reaches a number of ferocious climaxes, especially in the cadenza. The first theme in its full form reappears just before the coda. Rachmaninoff wrote two versions of this cadenza: the dramatic and powerful original, commonly notated as the ossia, and a second one with a lighter, toccata-like style. In his recording of the concerto, the composer used the second cadenza.

Here is the 1st movement of Rachmaninoffs piano concerto no 3. I know there are many errors during the concerto, but please forgive my errors; Im an amateur pianist:). Ive divided the first movement into three parts (as youtube only allows maximum 10 minutes for each video). Please feel free to comment.
I will be practising the rest of the concerto. If you like to watch and if you havent subscribed to my channel please feel free to subscribe. You will get to know as soon as possible in the future:)

  • Do you have any tips on how to practice it. I'm starting at the pui mosso, first movement. Did you literally practice it very slowly one bar at at ime, focussing on fingering, then build up tempo over time?

  • @Eztoez I practiced it very slowly like when you practice all other pieces. I usually practiced some pages at the time and slowly increasing the tempo.

  • That's pretty good... I'm still working of the the piu mosso at the very beginning - but I'm a real amateur.

Where did you get the recording of the orchestra?

  • @phoolisness Thanks so much. I got the recording from a friend.

  • how long have you been playing piano and how long did it take you?

  • Do you know where I can get the recording you're playing along with?

  • This is a really really good performance of a seriously hard work! Well done :)

  • @OrangeSodaKing You cannot compare those because they're different in terms of difficulty.

  • i envy you for the emotion very few have the ability to go through. to pull off this piece so aptly and feeling it with all its beauty.

ps: Shine's the best! got the same impressions. that and The Legend of 1900 where he played that supposedly-impossible cigarette-lighting piece xD

  • @OrangeSodaKing Of course

  • @pianistsan Have you heard Prokofiev 2 or Bartok 2?

  • @OrangeSodaKing Rach 3 is the hardest xD
