4th August 2011. Mark Duggan (29, Father of 4) is shot in a Police operation involving officers from Operation Trident and the Specialist Firearms Command (CO19). At 1815 (6pm) the Police say they stopped a mini cab that Mark was traveling in to carry out a pre-planned arrest.
There are conflicting reports about the shooting. According to one report in the Evening Standard, a man claimed he saw officers shoot a man while he was on the ground. The Guardian reported that a friend said Mark had been "feeling down" after a friend was killed this year.
During a demonstration outside Tottenham Police station in Tottenham High Road (on the 6th August) trouble erupts and develops into a riot. This continues throughout the night and into 7th August, with crowds moving from Tottenham into Wood Green. A number of properties are burned down. Many properties are looted.
On the 8th August a vigil is held not far from Tottenham Police station, where some local people expressed their anger and frustration at failings by the local authority (Haringey Council), Government and Police.
