Neil Abercrombie, who represents Hawaii's first district in the U.S. House of Representatives, visited Ohio early this month to campaign for Barack Obama. He spent a day joining Ohio AFL-CIO President Joe Rugola on his walk to highlight closed factories and lost jobs in Ohio (see http://labor2008.typepad.com/oh/2008/10/ohio-afl-cio-pr.html) and also took some time to talk to Labor 2008. Congressman Abercrombie, was a friend of Barack Obama's parents and knew Sen. Obama as a boy, has a pretty unique perspective into what Obama would bring to the presidency and why union members should support him.
Thanks to Congressman Abercrombie for his time.
Hmmm... what a difference two years makes! "Pookie", aka BHO, has certainly proved himself to be anything but a unifier...
Odd too, is how Abercrombie, now the Governor of Hawai'i, was all about opening more official state document filings of BHO's history a la his original long-form Birth Certificate, until BHO and his family took their Christmas 2010 vacation in Hawaii. Now Abercrombie is back-pedalling on most everything he has said in support of Obama...

Neil Abercrombie is so right about the value of 'lokahi'! I'm so lucky to know such a great man here in Hawaii.
