The US was thinking long term meanwhile the Germans were thinking of winning quick. BIggest mistake of World War II by Hitler. Plus, the Manhattan project boosted the economy! Hitler thought a massive project would drain funds. Even if the Germans took England and Russia we still would have simply bombed pretty much the whole wold.
