  • I honestly don't understand why I would use the shoulder sash in a real fight. But I guess it's also about learning the culture and keeping the culture alive. If we stripe everything away to only what is effective for our culture they we'd lose a lot of history.

  • @jjhaywood I first started to learn this from Guro Dan Inosanto. I was not a big fan about it. I started to change my mind. I felt it started making me tighter with my empty hands. Also, it is one of the few weapons I can walk on to a plane with. It's better than fingernails.

  • fighting with sarong??? in nusantara we called it cindai...very exotic r u practising Seni silat cimandee muda???

  • @aimullah86 I trained for a short while in the town of Cimandee while I was in Indonesia..

  • Funny thing about people like you is that you are willing to invade someones cyberspace but not their personal space. You and I both know what the outcome would be. This is my recommendation, get out of your Superman PJ's, eat your lucky charms and stop writing letters before your mom finds out.

You're a SISSY, you know it and I know it. My instructor always told me that they only try to tackle the guy who is carrying the ball. So, what you are telling me is that I am doing something right.

  • Why would you use the silat nomenclature in your screenname, but ridicule a respected element of silat training?

Surely you recognize the value of sarong techniques as they translate effectively into use of neckscarves, ropes, towels, chains, belts or any other flexible item one can manipulate in such fashion.

    Or...

Maybe improvising and adapting potentially lethal techniques is just too..."gay"...for you.

  • @jjhaywood because in reality anything over your shoulder can act in the same way. A backpack, a purse, etc.

  • well.. sarong is a common clothes in the past of indonesian culture.. it's like using anything usual to be an extremely dangerous weapon.

  • @nikonxxx -- Your typing in a comment under a fake nickname against a man who actually puts himself out there with full name is "gay shit." Ron Balicki is a world class martial artist; a man with full "black belt" level instructor ranking in VARIOUS martial arts. He has also competed in full-contact MMA matches and I can guarantee that he has ALSO trained with pistols and is probably a far better shot than you. Moron.

  • @jjhaywood The sarong tekniks in a modern world can be applied to a shoulder bag for girls..or a messenger type bag for guys. You could use the same moves with the strap of the bag over ur shoulder. Or even with a gym type duffle bag worn arcross ur chest. Or in winter places..use a scarf.

  • @jjhaywood

Sarung is part of traditional Pencak Silat attire, and it's there for a reason. During the Dutch rule in Indonesia, Silat & metal weapons were banned, so the fighters fashioned it as substitute, carry it around using it like belt/rope to attack n lock enemy.

The fact that it was also a very common accessory at the time make it easier to fool the Dutch. They said it was for protection against mosquitoes, heat, and night breeze. U can cover Ur whole body with it if it's large enough.

My pleasure! I really enjoyed going through some of your clips. I love Martial Arts so much:)

  • @davetheboy187 Thank you! Much appreciated.

Why do people continually insist on writing things here, that they would not dare say to someones face? It is a serious flaw in the nature of people these days, not so different then road rage. Why not learn some manners, and if you have something you feel you want to say, then do so with dignity. Ron, I think its a pretty decent video actually. And I think I can say so being that I have been training Martial Arts for 17 odd years! Keep up the good work:)
