The top 5 dunks in Duke basketball history.

Dunks were chosen based o the following criteria:
1. game stage - regional final for example
2. impact on the game - G Hill and Henderson's dunks gave Duke all the momentum in those games.
3. who got dunked on? -7'4 Ralph Sampson and Alonzo Mourning for example
4. uniqueness - Johnny D dunking BACKWARDS on someone which I have never seen again

  • I will never forget Tinkerbell's dunk over Ralph. The game was broadcast via an ACC regional telecast on a weeknight. I was in 7th grade, I think, and stayed up to watch it. The tv angle was different than the highlight on this video. Came out of no where, and Eugene just rocked it. Sorry Kenny D's reverse isn't at least an honorable mention.

  • @antelopecreek didnt have kenny d's dunk. I remember the banks dunk from another angle also but i couldnt find the video.

  • Awesome video! Thanks for posting some great memories.

  • Johnny Dawkins did that just seconds before halftime in an NCAA game, if I remember correctly. Duke was playing a lackluster game and he said he did it to pump himself up. They came out and crushed in the second half. Great team.

  • Awesome video and killer selections. Thanks for putting this together! Will also never forget Phil's hammer over Zo in the regional final.

  • When I saw the title of this video, I was hoping to see the Grant Hill alley oop dunk at 1991 National Championship Game. That still is the best dunk I have ever saw. Great Video.

  • I tell my kids about the Gene Banks dunk over Ralph Sampson. It's great to finally be able to show them a video and that I described it perfectly from when I was 15. Duke fans know Gene has the nickname Tinkerbell or Tink, but we also called him Gene, Gene, The Dunking Machine! The best thing about that dunk was it was off a fastbreak and Ralph was already in the paint and Gene just took it to the hole!

  • Your choices and rankings are perfect!

  • Awesome video. Great tribute to the Duke greats
