  • Bernstein and the great VPO worked very well together. Here, in my favorite Mahler symphony, he elicits a dark, lurid, fairy tale sound from the Orchestra, one that does the piece justice. Lenny's dramatic style of conducting is perfect for Mahler and having the Vienna PO as his instrument makes this an excellent performance.
