The RIIFF has recently announced the Winners for its Screenplay Competition and Kate & Co. has taken the 2007 Rhode Island Screenwriter Prize. It was one of seven recognized from a pool of over 200 applicants.

Everyone in Bristol knows good-hearted Kate as a long lost relative trying to make a new start by opening a 'mom & pops' style coffee shop in this franchise free small town. She quilts herself into the fabric of this esoteric community by befriending the locals with homespun stories of a fictitious past, but a 'dark' secret brews in her house of 'carbs.'

Would the town approve if they knew her true identity as the front-woman for Organic Hearth, a coffee and baked goods conglomerate taking root in their back yard? When Kate begins to fall in love with the quaint little town (and Sam, the local deputy!), she wonders what life in Bristol would be like if she made all of her lies come true.

The Rhode Island International Film Festival is just the latest venue to recognize Kate & Co. as an exciting new work in American screenwriting. This farcical take on corporate America is also a finalist for the Sundance Screenwriter's Lab, and a Quarter-Finalist in the American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest.

Actors Dylan Baker (Happiness, Spider Man 1, 2, and 3), Grant Show (Melrose Place, Dirt, Swingtown), Bayne Gibby, (Dreamwork's On the Lot, HBO's The Comeback, Men in Trees), and Caitlin Miller (The Ex) have all given letters of interest on this project.
