  • I worked for TW at MDW in 1969. It was practically a ghost airport back then. Fewer than 40 flights in and out. The same airport exterior as that seen in Hitchcock's 'North by Northwest'. Variety of aircraft. DC3 at OZ, Caravelles at UA. Mostly DC9s and B727s. Wouldn't recognise the airport today.

  • i would love to live there..

  • Long day today. Baltimore to Burbank via..Columbus, Chicago Midway (which is where this video was shot), Portland and San Jose

  • Midway at times can be a bit scarly to land at but it's nothing compared to this which believe it or not is a routine landing at St. Maarten

  • A triva fact about Midway. Back in the 50's and 60's when there were mostly prop planes there used to be public school inside the fence. The property was originally owned by the Chiago School board. When school was in session they closed the SW/NE runway. Over the years there have been several crashes into homes that surround the airport on three sides. My uncle use to live two blocks away SW of airport on glidepath and literally planes cleared his roof by 20-30 feet at times.

  • Cont 1

Other jets have crashed into the barrier, I remember years ago a Lear jet hit it at the opposite end on takeup. Without the barrier the plane would have skidded into 63rd and Cicero probably killing a lot of people.

  • That's Central Ave, West border of airport. Midway is only a mile square. The wall is serves two purposes, noise abatement and safety. A couple years ago on a icy night with snow falling a jet overshot and landed way long on a runway, I forget if the barrier was there or not, anyway it extented out in the street before it stopped ran into a passing car trapped it under the wing killing some poor little kid in the car. Tragic.

  • Great Video...I hate the big fortress wall around the airport!!!!!!!! I guess they dont want the action of the airplanes distracting drivers? Or is it something else? Whats so secret at Midway?

  • great job man nice vid!!!!!!5******

  • if you filmed a day later you could've saw my flight departing. great video!
