Lets not misunderstand the lyrics here. Everytime we let our kids down to the extreme and emotional abandonment and abuse, layers of defense grow and change to the detriment of every relationship they engage in. There will be no trust, no real commitment.  Abuse them now, and it becomes multi-generation and an on-going cycle. And ironically, the lack of their trust will manifest in people they love walking away when they realize they have been given no choice. Be good to your kids, period.
