QUINCY, Ill. -- Austin Coleman made a scintillating catch for a touchdown late in the first half in a similar manner to the way the St. Louis Cardinals won the 2011 World Series. Coleman never quit on a ball that looked uncatchable the way the Cardinals never quit though down 10 1/2 games in August. Just like that, 12th-ranked USF was back in the lead and finished with a 34-7 win over Quincy University on a sunny, unseasonably beautiful Saturday afternoon near the banks of the Mississippi River.
The 6-2 Cougars finished with 417 yards of total offense while limiting the Hawks to 227, 78 on one scoring pass in the first half. After QU tied the game at seven, Coleman regained the lead for good when he snared a pass from Justin Boser for a 50-yard score with 2:15 to play in the first half. Emerson Ueber added the first of two field goals for a 17-7 halftime lead with just 17 seconds left in the first half.
USF senior quarterback Justin Boser finished 25-for-33 passing for 306 yards and two touchdowns. Armando Bustamante caught a 39-yard TD pass from Boser to put USF in front in the first quarter.
Antoin Campbell led USF rushing with 85 yards on 20 carries. He had a four-yard TD. Aaron Knight had seven receptions for 81 yards. Koby Frye had five receptions for 52 yards including a 13-yard TD reception from Wesley Hunsucker in the fourth quarter.
The Cougars, now 2-2 in MSFA Mideast League play, travels to Upland, Ind., next Saturday to play Taylor University at 1 p.m.
