  • is your on here asking questions on how to rhyme then u shouldnt be ryming at all

  • @theo714

    Testify my brotha!

  • and how does not using a rhyme dictionary make your lyrics more genuine? that makes no sense whatsoever. Rhyme dictionaries can help increase precision so that MC's can say exactly what they want to say while having smooth rhyme schemes at the same time. So if anything rhyme dictionaries increase genuineness.

I never said that you shouldn't ever use a rhyming dictionary. All I am saying is that you shouldn't totally rely on that. Do you seriously think Eminem or Nas use rhyming dictionaries for every line of hip hop they write?

If you can't learn how to think of rhymes on your own, in my opinion you shouldn't be rapping in the first place.

  • i disagree with this. The best way to exercise your rhyming mind is to know what rhymes with what. If you don't use a rhyming dictionary your content is likely to suffer.

  • @slizfreeze

If you use a rhyming dictionary for everything, don't you think it's like using a crutch? It's not that hard to think of rhymes on your own, just write them out. Then if you need help consult a rhyming dictionary.

The best way to learn how to rhyme is to study hip hop songs and read literature.

You shouldn't only rely on a rhyming dictionary to create rhymes. Once again, do you think guys like Wayne, Eminem, Nas and Jay Z rely on rhyming dictionaries only?

  • @slizfreeze the bottom line is if you have a lyrical/multisyllabic style then you would be foolish not to consult a rhyme dictionary regularly. But that is only one style and one sound .. peace.

  • @hiphopknights it all depends on what sound your looking for. The way Eminem does it is he "stacks ammo" meaning he compiles a bunch of ideas and thinks of a bunch of things that rhyme before he sits down and writes. So in a way Em uses his own little rhyme dictionary. A lot of the rhyme dictionaries that are on the internet right now are terrible anyways but they will get better. On the other hand Wayne and Jayz don't write at all, and neither did Biggie.

  • @hiphopknights Cheers. There used to be a time when musicians had to know how to play an instrument. Nowadays, because of technological advances, hundreds of thousands of people are making music without the ability to play an instrument. With respect to vocals it's the same idea. Technology is getting better and better and pretty soon a computer will be able to write some of the craziest schemes for you. I guess it all depends on what sound your looking for....

But if you use rhymes from your own head, you won't be using a dictionary as a crutch. All the rhymes are in our own heads, we just get lazy and try to get a dictionary not realizing the potential of our own minds. If you want to consult a rhyming dictionary you can but don't rely on it all the time.
