It's kind of sad that when cartoons have run their course, the powers that be try to resuscitate them by force with updates to be more urban and hip, as with the season 7 rap intro. Another painful example is the recent Alvin and the Chipmunks reboot, complete with hoodies and gold chains. It's as if the cartoon itself has no essential appeal, and the only important thing is to align it with what "kids think is cool nowadays."
