Types of Government - Republic vs. Democracy vs. Oligarchy

(as originally featured here:
http://www.wimp.com/thegovernment/)

If you don't know the difference between a Democracy and a Republic, as America was designed to be, watch the video. The founding fathers made America a Republic, so that the law would be the deciding factor in things--not mob rule, and not tyrannical whims. See how a new nation can start as a Republic, shift to a Democracy, then fall into a cycle of Oligarchy and Anarchy.

  • There's already a problem with the scale of Total vs No Govt. Socialist and Fascist governments are ruled by totally different people. On the socialist side, the workers. On the fascist side, more of a dictatorship.

  • @deekismusic

Actually, Socialists aren't ruled by workers--they're ruled by central planning (dictatorship). You're thinking of Communists, which is a form of Anarchy, ruled equally (i.e. not ruled) by the workers (the proletariat). Socialism is in the 'full gov't' side, and so is Fascism.

  • I am a leftist and completely against centralized government. What now bitch.

  • @leldoryn

Then you must be some kid who doesn't know what the hell you're talking about.

  • @deimosghost I would normally reply with a detailed answer explaining why you are wrong, but obviously despite all these comments on anarchism and the complexity of the political spectrum you still have not taken the time to look up "libertarian left".

  • @leldoryn

'Libertarian Left'? Nah...you're some kid who fancies yourself as something you don't understand. You're probably against Capitalism (fight the system! The corporations!) and want to be left alone to smoke pot.

Honestly, all the comments on anarchism here aren't true anarchists and don't understand it any better than you do. What is 'left' to you? Left is centralized planning. Redistribution. And it's on the 'total gov't' side of this spectrum.

    Is 'Left' anarchy? Contradiction.

  • Brown Shirts and Anarchy had nothing to do with Hitler getting into power, it was the work of the Elites and certain historical events such as the Depression

  • @707westy Off the top of my head, I can think of RON PAUL!!! Albeit he IS the single one...

  • @Zaprijavko I dont think you get it. This is about how every single Democracies is following in Rome's footsteps. US is broke and in debt for one reason. Special interest groups, Stem Cells, Abortion, Forcing people to buy insurance. Those cost money, and everytime the government spends 1 second entertaining one of those interest the rest of the people are being harmed, I am sure you would agree we all have enough money to give the government to support all of those interests.

  • This is a narrowly ridiculous and onesided apology of one of the systems.

The author has made no mention of the system such as the European monarchies which offer their citizens the same amenities as the glorified Res Publica Americana.

It is so easy to build ideas with black and white bricks; it takes an artist and a connoisseur to comprehensively interpret the world, rather than rant and glorifiy onesidedly

  • @Scattnam Well I won't pretend to know why Obama is a corporate sell out(I think it's most specificly to the financial corporations) but I usually start with the need for money to get elected. Usually a politician needs to out spend his or her opponent. This goes for just about every single one, not just Obama. Off the top of my head I can't think of any politician who isn't beholden to a corporate special interest.... not a single one.

  • @707westy Why do you think Obama is a piece of corperate sell out? cause hes a faggot.

  • @Scattnam We started out as a republic but in my opinion we lost that long ago. A Plutocracy(an Oligarchy of money) has long been in control. I don't see this as a grand conspiracy mind you, just the natural order of people trying to get the most and keep the most power they can.... and thanks but I'll pass on the dick, I much prefer big fat hairy pussies.

  • @707westy retard, the more correct term is republic. but either way they are very simmilar so eat a dick

  • @TheCIAsucks - I see another brainwashed sheeple here....

    You're an idiot.

  • @leldoryn - If you knew about politics as you suppose you do, you'd realize the fallacy of that statement.
