New, unreleased song. No Richard Lloyd, he's been replaced by Jimmy Rip. Rest of the band remains the same: Tom Verlaine, Billy Ficca, Fred Smith.

Television was an American rock band, formed in New York City in 1973. They are best known for the album Marquee Moon and widely regarded as one of the founders of "punk" and New Wave music.Television was part of the early 1970s New York underground rock scene, along with bands like the Patti Smith Group, The Ramones, Blondie, Richard Hell and The Voidoids, and Talking Heads. In contrast to the Ramones' rock 'n' roll minimalism, Television's music was more complex and more technically proficient, defined by guitarists Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd.

  • What album is this on?

OMOIYARI FOR JAPAN - international music rescue vol.1

I got my copy via Vinyl Japan, but I don't know if they're still selling it.

  • As to my stating that Tom has a dislike for some of Billy's drumming was not to "Slag" Bill Ficca. I think Bill is one of the very best drummers in rock. For God's sake he went on two of my recent solo tours. There are two reasons for playing with Tom even if I am gone: one, he is a founding member of the band and deserves to be there, and two: The paycheck ain't bad.

    This isn't you?

  • What's with these Tom worshippers here who trash Lloyd 'cause he dares suggest Tom is less than a perfect human being?

Considering Richard Hell said similar things about Tom's dictatorial, flailing ego tendencies in relation to Hell's time in, & being squeezed out of the band, a pattern seems to emerge here. These two men obviously know Tom only too well as a person. Do Tom's devotees posting here & attacking Lloyd know Tom well or at all? No, eh?

I think even the most dedicated Tom worshippers agree that he's a jackass.

What people mind is Lloyd slagging off the other members of the band by slagging this song for no good reason and generally trying to rewrite history in his sole favor.

And I personally find it more concerning to see all the patting on the back for someone who obviously isn't mentally well.

  • I am very pleased that Tom has maintained a dignified silence. It is always the best response when attacked by the mentally ill.

  • Beautiful. Wonderful stuff, Tom and co.

  • Television is about music, and apparently music that all of us here value.

A focus on the personalities and conflicts among the musicians is an insignificant distraction from the music (in addition to appearing embarrassingly similar to those silly "reality" shows). One should separate the art from the personal habits and traits of the artists. Doing otherwise can only detract from the analysis and enjoyment of the art and lead to baseless and insignificant conclusions.

  • @Bobjb999 and Sludinger, I am not trying to write anything in anyone's favor. Everyone that knows me knows I have a photographic memory of the period as well as an auditory memory such that I can repeat things that were said thirty years ago. I think it's a pure shame that you keep trying to slag me when all I speak are true facts. You weren't there. I don't NEED pats on the back and you are far more mentally ill than I am. I can still make records and tour. What can you do?

  • @Bobjb999

I know all that and of course Television sells more tickets. And having had the "pleasure" of meeting Verlaine more than once, believe me I'm not upset over criticism of his "noble" character.

But still doesn't answer the question why Ficca still plays with him in the band. Does Verlaine blackmail him? Hold his wife/kids/whatever hostage if he wants to play a Television concert? How else can you or Lloyd explain this if Verlaine is the worst, most egomaniac bandleader on the planet?
