When me and my family were in Ft. Myers at the beach this summer for vacation we were kinda far out just snorkeling when the sirens went off. We looked all around until we saw the freaking big water spout coming right towards us! scared the shiz out of me!!

According to nautical survival manuals, if you are out in a small craft and a water spout is on top of you and you are unable to out maneuver the storm, the safest place to be is in the water. I know it sounds crazy, but as long as you have a good pfd and possibly protective head gear, you'll be safer and less likely to be picked up, then if you were in a small craft, like less than 20 ft. Remember PFD and a helmet, always a good idea to keep one around.
