The Synagogue has now been converted in to a dance studio owned by myself and a dance partner. It seems strange to see what it looked like before but I feel happy to say that the synagogue is back in use for a new exciting purpose. Unfortunately there are plans for the council to knock this building down. We are currently in the process of trying to save this great building!

I visited the synagogue about 9 years ago with party of students from stoke on trent college and was shown around by nice guy called Mr Morris. The synagogue closed because the city always had a small jewish congreagtion and most of them have either passed on or moved to places with bigger jewish communities like manchester or birmingham. Very sad to see it closed, as a (non-jewish)native of the city it's been part of my local heritage since I was a kid,

According to the BBC website they have had to move as
"The Birch Terrace synagogue in Hanley is now too big for the community it serves, so a smaller replacement is being built in Newcastle."
