@greendayrules11 head studs, egr cooler delete, ITP regulated return, Air dog II, 4" downpipe to 6" stacks, innovative extreme tuning.

Can anyone tell me what makes the 03 turbos louder than the 05 on up turbos?

@DieselnDrums the 03 turbine wheel is larger in diameter and has 10 blades, the late 04 to 07 turbos have a 13 blade turbine wheel thats smaller and alot more quiet

@SICKSOJOE 04's are the only ones with 13 vanes, 05 to 07 has a 15 vane charger

@44skillet every year truck has 9 movable turbine vanes, not to be confused with the blade count on the turbine wheel. ive yet to see a 15 blade turbine wheel out of any year 6.0, my father and i run a powerstroke speciality shop. ive had a ton of every year 6.0 turbo apart for cleaning & repairs. from my experience late 04 up have all been 13 blade wheels, oem, reman or new from ford. if there are 15 blade wheels out there theyre few and far between.
03 to 04.5 = larger 10 blade turbine wheel

04.5 to 07 = smaller 13 blade turbine wheel.
03 to 04.5 also have longer and wider vanes in the turbine housing and use a unison ring different from 04.5+
the 04.5-07 vanes are shorter and narrower, the pivot point is closer to the turbine wheel. the wheel and vane changes for 04.5+ were primarily to increase low rpm exhaust back pressure. the increased pressure differential (EP vs MGP) allowed ford to increase EGR flow at low rpm
