I'm not defending any individual wars.
But I'm saying there is a huge difference between killing during wartime and killing within your own society.
-
Nor are there any laws that stopped Bush from invading Iraq. It was in fact the laws which allowed them to do this without proper evedence nor a referendum.
-
There are laws against crime, so no, crime doesn't threaten an entire society because laws exist to deal with it.
Laws weren't around to keep Hitler from invading Poland, or Saddam from invading Kuwait. If you can't stop such aggressive actions with laws, what other means besides the military do you have?
-
This is the problem; this is when double standards come into play.
Does crime not count as a threat to the entire society? I certainly don't plan on abandoning my neighbours if they are burgled... or any person for that matter. Which means that some killings are justified as defence of life.
But given that the army is only capable of broad actions, or to use a term in the UK, a sledge hammer to crack a nut. Do you think that it is impossible for them to leave innocent people untouched?

I'm not defending all wars or individual wars. I am, however, distinguishing between the murdering of the innocent (assuming that most domestic murders are without justification) and the killing of those who have made threats to your entire society.

When was the last time America was invaded? However it has invaded Afghanistan and Iraq and there were no WMDs.
-
If you can't tell the difference between a man murdering his wife and a soldier killing an invading enemy, I really can't help you.

That's okay, I'd rather be free of being a smelly redneck farmer.

Mate, in order to prevent corruption and tyranny. All gov't officials (INCLUDING COPS) have to take an Oath of Office. That Oath of Office, and Position of Public Trust, puts them in a position as a Public Servant. To Serve the Public! They are always to be in a position envying the public, otherwise corruption and tyranny reigns supreme. THAT was part of the checks and balances put into place to prevent tyranny. Problem is, too many people like you allow them to be ignorant of this fact!
