CSX Q741 is an intermodal/Tropicana juice train heading south with an SD70MAC and an SD50. The lead unit has an awesome Nathan K5LAR24 horn!!! :)

  • What kind of horn was that?

  • That was a Nathan K5LA. It just sounded different than a regular one because for some reason, EMDs have them tuned to a higher chord than GEs. It's kind of a nice thing, though, because you can usually tell whether an EMD is coming or not. :)

  • I found out that R409 was a train back in the days of the RF&P Railroad from Richmond to Alexandria.

  • The emptys ran on R409 then Q409 and then as S409 until the conrail merger when the K651 was started.

  • the empties here used to be on R409 (this being before they changed the symbols to Qs) and another manifest south of Jessup, GA (where 409 would go to Waycross, then Tropicana kept complaining their empties was getting back too late, and then CSX made up K650 loads and K651 empties, recently they changed to Q700s killing most of the Q symbols. and the intermodal is from Q175
